Bowie Graffiti Mural

The David Bowie Memorial (inspired by the cover of Bowie’s 1973 album, Aladdin Sane) is painted just around the corner from where he was born (on 40 Stansfield Road), on a wall of Morley’s Department Store, and has been a highlight of Brixton since 2013.

It is the work of Australian artist James Cochran (aka JimmyC).

In the days following David Bowie’s death, on January 10, 2016, the mural became the focus for thousands of fans who showed up to pay tribute, leaving notes and flowers. More recently, in April 2018, it was re-painted and protected with a permanent plastic cover. Yes, that’s me.
